'Caligula' Director to Make 3D Adult Feature
ROME — Italian film director Tinto Brass said Thursday that he plans on producing a feature-length 3D adult film.
Brass, best known for the 1979 film "Caligula," which he directed in collaboration with author Gore Vidal and former Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione, said the time is right for 3D technologies to be used to create adult films.
Brass said that with the film he plans to "revisit an abandoned project about a Roman emperor that was ruined by Americans, and go make a new film,” according to Romagna Noi, which reports on Italian news and entertainment.
What Brass may have been referring to is the film "Caligula," which he has criticized because of scenes added during postproduction without his consent.
Throughout his career, the 77-year-old director created many avant-garde films, but he is mostly known for his erotic features “Salon Kitty,” “The Key,” “Senso '45” and, of course, “Caligula.”
Brass noted that the production also will be the first 3D film of any type made in Italy. He plans on shooting the feature as early as May.
In the U.S., 3D production for porn movies has been slow in coming.
Tommy Gunn released “Tommy Gunn’s Cummin’ At You 3D” in September. The adult film utilizes stereoscopic technology that makes it possible to shoot first-person point-of-view in 3D.
